Dominican Republic is ready to count people

The X National Population and Housing Census will be carried out between November 10th and 23rd, 2022.
The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, said that the process will cost 3.6 billion Dominican pesos.
The president indicated that the process will be with the help of local and international organizations, “imitating successful cases as has been done in other countries, and with all the professionalism so that the Dominican people, the government and civil society have the data and the real statistics of what the Dominican Republic is like in 2022”.
He also pointed out that the “latest technologies” available will e used to have the information as quickly as possible.
During the data collection process, approximately 35,000 people from all over the country will participate.
“It is a great effort that the government is making, which will have many positive repercussions, to carry out efficient public policies we have to have real data on the situation of the people in their territories,” said the president at the ceremony held at the Office National Statistics (ONE).
The director of ONE, Miosotis Rivas Peña, explained that for the first quarter of 2023, data on the total population, by sex and by province in the country, will be freely accessible.
According to the IX National Population and Housing Census, published in 2012, the country had 9,445,281 inhabitants, including 4,739,038 men and 4,706,243 women.
