Dominican parties agree to stop extemporaneous campaign actions
All the political parties and movements signed the agreement-commitment with the Central Electoral Board (JCE) with which they undertook to stop a list of extemporaneous electoral campaign actions.
However, the issue of sanctions for those who break these rules is still pending from a JCE unit whose operating regulations must discuss the matches on Thursday, November 10th.
The president of the JCE, Román Jáquez Liranzo, announced the success that the plenary session had in getting all the organizations to sign, but made a precision that satisfied the proposals for changes to the document that the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) had made.
Jáquez clarified that “issues pertaining to questions of institutional internal democracy” are allowed. “What is prohibited are issues that have to do with pre-campaign events, campaign events, events where pre-candidacies and candidacies are promoted.”
The parties were summoned for November 10th to a public hearing of the draft of the regulation that creates the electoral sanctioning administrative procedure. Thus, the Electoral Administrative Sanction Unit would be created.
This draft was presented by the JCE for discussion to the parties, universities and civil society organizations on June 9th, 2022.
