Dominican deputy is arrested in the United States for drug trafficking charges
The United States Drug Control Administration (DEA) and the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida in coordination with the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD and the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic reported on the arrest of a Dominican deputy in Miami airport, after a United States arrest warrant for international drug trafficking matters.
Deputy Miguel Gutiérrez Díaz was arrested when he arrived on a commercial flight from the Dominican Republic to the Miami terminal.
He was detained by the United States authorities to answer the accusations against him.
The legislator is representative of Santiago for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
According to the authorities, the arrest of legislator Gutiérrez Díaz is part of “strengthening cooperation against transnational crime between the anti-drug agencies of the United States and the Dominican Republic.”
“The case is in the investigation phase and we look forward to continuing to cooperate with the US authorities throughout the process,” the press release said.
