Dominican airports mobilize almost half a million passengers in 90 days
Traffic on the main airport terminals in the Dominican Republic reports an increase of almost half a million passengers transferred, after the reopening of the borders and tourism, which were shut since March as a result of COVID-19.
According to data provided by the Communications Department of the Dominican Airports Consortium Siglo XXI (Aerodom), from July 1 to date, a total of 416,936 passengers have arrived and taken off from and to different cities in the United States, Europe, South, Central America, and the Caribbean.
Over 133,000 passengers transited during July, showing a higher volume in August with 140,252 travelers who came to the country through the airports managed by Aerodom, which are Las Americas, Puerto Plata, and El Higüero.
September reported 143,379 travelers, for a total in the first three months after the pandemic of 416,936 passengers.
Other airports
The Punta Cana and La Romana airport terminals during September handled less passenger volume than the Americas, according to a graph provided by the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, IDAC.
In this graph, the Americas figures as the leader in passenger traffic, which during September moved 129,360 passengers, while Punta Cana mobilized 34,153 and La Romana only 104 travelers.
Passengers are required to comply with the use of masks and social distance, while disinfection devices are installed on each terminal.
It is also reported that in Punta Cana and La Romana the protocols established to prevent the spread and contagion of COVID-19 are being complied with local and international authorities guidelines.
Aerodom manages the airports Las Américas José Francisco Peña Gómez, Joaquín Balaguer (El Higüero) Gregorio Luperón de Puerto Plata, Arroyo Barril and Professor Juan Bosch, (El Catey) both in Samaná, as well as María Montez de Barahona.
