Comfort Hospital Ship is coming to the Dominican Republic

The United States Embassy and the Ministry of Public Health announced that the USNS Comfort military hospital ship will arrive in the Dominican Republic in November to offer free medical care as part of the Continuing Promise 2022 mission.
From November 28 to December 5, the ship’s American medical personnel, along with Dominican doctors, will be providing consultations as part of the support of the Government of the United States to increase medical preparation, strengthen collaborations and improve the combined capabilities of the US Navy and partner nations to respond to public health catastrophes and potential future humanitarian crises.
The Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic, Robert Thomas, said: “Ensuring that all Dominicans receive the benefits of our collaboration is at the core of everything the United States Embassy does here in Dominican Republic. the Dominican Republic. That is why we have chosen the Azua Sports Center as one of the places where the medical personnel of the US Navy from the USNS Comfort will install a medical care center in November”.
In a press release, the Minister of Public Health, Daniel Rivera, thanked the United States government for the services and care they provide through the USNS Comfort military hospital ship, in which thousands of people receive the medical care they offer, also strengthens cooperation between the two countries. The minister said that sending these missions, in addition to attending and providing services, also strengthens cooperation and friendship between countries, and in times of peace, they provide more and more closeness and strengthen learning and the exchange of good practices.

The services will be available at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and at the Azua Sports Center. Among the consultations and services that will be provided as part of Continuing Promise 2022 are: general medical evaluations, preventive medicine, dental exams and dental treatments, optometry (eye exams), pharmacy, pediatrics, dermatology, physical therapy.
The Continuing Promise 2022 mission will include the provision of direct medical assistance and veterinary care, conducting training and expert exchanges on various topics of medical and humanitarian assistance, as well as disaster response, and conducting seminars on women, peace and security.
