Chamber of Deputies approve a new state of emergency extension
The Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday a new extension of the state of emergency for 45 more days.
The request was received by the Legislative Secretary-General of the Senate on May 14th and subsequently approved by the Upper House.
In his letter to the President of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella, President Luis Abinader argued that it is necessary to maintain the curfew and other social distancing measures adopted during the state of emergency.
“As a country, we have managed to contain the level of contagion thanks to the sustained and uninterrupted adoption of the aforementioned measures, especially now that we are successfully executing phase III of the National Vaccination Plan,” he states.
Having approved the request in both Chambers, it will return to the Executive Power so that the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, decree a new state of emergency.
The new state of emergency will begin on May 31st and will last until July 15th.
