Three new hotels for Miches before the end of year
Thousands of rooms waiting for approval by the Tourist Development Council (Confotur) including the construction of three new hotels in Miches, to continue expanding the hotel portfolio in the country.
According to Rafael Blanco Tejera, president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores), the national level construction was reactivated.
“In the case of Miches, we have three hotels possibly confirmed to begin construction before the end of the year, giving the area the boost, it needs to reaffirm itself as a tourist destination”, he said.
He explained that in Santo Domingo there are several hotels under construction, so “we are quite satisfied that international investors continue to believe in the Dominican Republic because we are evolving in a positive and safe way”.
“Among the brands that continue to bet on expansion in the Dominican Republic are Hyatt, Intercontinental, and Viva Wyndham, which are both European and American brands”, he said.
He also specified that more than 85% of the hotels nationwide are open and the occupancy rate is around 50%, however the East zone (La Romana, Bayahibe, and Punta Cana) has a higher occupancy because it is directly fed by tourists of the United States”, he added.
The head of Asonahores said the Canadian market is expected to reactivate in the short or medium term as borders are opened and restrictions are lowered.
Regarding the European market, Blanco Tejera, added that it is on the rise and visitors from that continent have already begun to register their arrival in the Dominican Republic.
“We continue working to continue strengthening tourist confidence, with this we understand that the second quarter of the year will be much better than the first.”
