The Spanish businessmen who have investments in tourism in the Dominican Republic grouped in Inverotel awarded President Luis Abinader, also coordinator of the Tourism Cabinet, for his work in the recovery and growth of that sector from the coronavirus pandemic. .
The president thanked the homage and the contribution that foreign investors have made to the country with the construction of dozens of hotels and the creation of thousands of jobs.
Encarna Piñero, president of Inverotel and general manager of Grupo Piñero, stated in her speech at the event that the Dominican Republic has reasons to celebrate the results that the tourism sector is obtaining in terms of visitor arrivals, which could reach 7.2 million at the end of this 2022.
A large part of them will have stayed in the hotels that 16 of the 17 companies that are part of Inverotel have in the country and that, in total, represent 45% of the availability of hotel rooms that the Dominican Republic has.
The event was closed with a private lunch offered by the president in the Colonial City. The members of Inverotel, Carmen Ríu; Miguel Fluxá, Encarna Piñero, André Girandeau, Javier Luque and Juan Fierro.
More tourists
The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, offered the statistics that show a sustained growth in the arrival of tourists in recent years, with the exception of the pandemic years.
This trend has caused the year 2022 to achieve records in terms of the arrival of foreigners for eleven months. On November 22, 17,979 “non-residents by air” arrived in the country. Collado estimated that this month will end with a growth of 28%, in reference to November 2019, before the pandemic.
Projections indicate that 589,000 “non-residents by air” will arrive in the Dominican Republic this month.
