Sargassum shows up on the beaches of Pedernales
A large amount of algae has been evacuated by the waves to the beaches of the municipality of Pedernales, while brigades from the Ministries of Environment and Natural Resources and Public Works and Communications (MOPC) have proceeded to clean it.
For days, the waves have not only expelled the algae on the coast of this town, but also large amounts of gravel on the coast of the Bocanye beaches, where they intend to build a boardwalk and develop the tourism project announced by President Luis Abinader.
Although these quantities of seaweed are not frequent, the locals have been surprised by the display of this waste produced by the high waves that, in recent days, have surrounded the entire coastline.
The algae have not only covered urban beaches, they also extend along the shores of territorial areas with Haiti.
