Puerto Plata resumes cruise tourism with 2,600 passengers from Carnival Horizon
Cruise tourism in the Dominican Republic is reactivated with the arrival of 2,600 passengers to Puerto Plata that arrived through the Carnival Horizon at the Amber Cove terminal.
“With the arrival of the Carnival Horizon and its 2,600 passengers, we can say that Cruise Tourism in Puerto Plata is reactivated today”, said the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) through its social networks.
The minister of Tourism, David Collado, said that 95% of the tourists who arrived on Dominican soil through the said terminal are vaccinated and excited to discover everything the country has to offer.
“The cruise ship has 100% of its crew vaccinated and 95% of passengers vaccinated, understanding that 5% are girls and boys. Together we promote good biosafety practices”, wrote Collado on Twitter.
On her side, Orfila Salazar, director of Mitur Cruises, indicated that “it is the first cruise to arrive in the Dominican Republic for tourism purposes, and we have more scheduled for the coming months.”
Salazar emphasized that the most important thing is that this does not represent any risk for passengers or for Dominicans because all security measures are being implemented.
Jeffrey Rannik and David Candib, port executives, highlighted that cruise lines have implemented protocols that meet and exceed the health regulations and laws of the United States, as well as the different destinations that the ship docks.
With the arrival of this boat, the economic sectors of the Atlantic Bride are energized.
“The hearts of Puerto Plata are overflowing with joy. Today the economy begins to revitalize with the reopening of the arrival of cruise ships”, underlined the senator of that province, Ginette Bournigal.
She recalled that visitors and crew members go ashore to get to know the city, where they buy local products.
The ship left Miami, Florida, and reached the coast of the Atlantic Bride, where it will remain until 6 pm.
It is recalled that after almost 16 months without operating, the Carnival Cruise Lines company has started with two trips, its tours of the Caribbean, the first of these was the Carnival Vista that departed last Saturday, July 3rd from Galveston and the Carnival Horizon to a six-day cruise with stops in Amber Cove (Dominican Republic) and the private island Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas.
