Marriott Group shows interest in Samaná and in the development of Pedernales
The Marriott Group is interested in several developments in the Dominican Republic, including Samaná and the Pedernales plan.
“If we see the plan and have confidence, we like to be the first to take advantage, and our entire team has said that it will be a success”, said Craig Smith, president of the Marriott Group, International Division, referring to the public-private project in the south of the country.
The hotel group has 10 facilities in the Caribbean country and 13 more that will end in two or three years, as well as other contracts that are still under negotiation and that have not been announced.
Smith said that he sees good prospects in the Caribbean, which is the region that is concentrating the attention of travelers on the return to tourism after the pandemic.
The president of the Marriott Group said that the last 18 months have been very difficult, “but we see the hope of investors that travelers are going to return, and they will come back strong”.
Regarding the Dominican Republic as a destination, Smith stressed that he has seen how the arrival of tourists has diversified in recent years and also how the country has gone from having tourism of two and three-star resorts to high-quality hotel developments.
“We have confidence in the country and in the trajectory of travelers arriving from other countries”, he added.
