Foreigners choose the DR to get married and spend honeymoon

The Dominican Republic has become one of the most attractive Caribbean destinations for foreigners and visitors, not only for vacations and excursions to different tourist spots, but also for such special occasions as weddings and honeymoons.

Although this reason for traveling is much lower in percentage, compared to those who come for pure leisure, recreation and visits to relatives, the preference to seal marriage unions is striking, in this portion of land of 48,442 square kilometers.

This has become a constant, especially for celebrities from different parts of the world.

The Ministry of Tourism presented its report for the month of September, in which 25,996 foreigners who were consulted, and 1,299 came to get married or spend their honeymoon, representing 5% of those surveyed.

It should be said that of that figure given by the institution during the balance step, 74% stated that their reason for traveling is leisure to beaches and hotels, 16% to visit friends and family, as well as 4% to participate in business and conventions to be carried out in the national territory, and 1% for the rest of the activities.

The Ministry of Tourism reported that 430,129 tourists visited the Dominican Republic during the month of September of this 2022.

The institution took stock of the arrival of foreigners to the country and compared them with previous years, where 365,540 came on the same date in 2021, that is, about 64,589 fewer tourists.

In addition, he specified that, compared to September 2019, for this year it exceeds it by more than 106,467, as well as 103,942 foreigners who arrived in the 2020 pandemic.

It is worth mentioning that of the total number of tourists who arrived last month, 341,761 were foreigners, which is equivalent to 36% more than those who visited this side of the island during 2019.

Meanwhile, 88,413 of those visitors were Dominicans, which places them 37% above September 2018 and 21% above the same date in 2019.

So far this year more than 5.3 million tourists have arrived in the country.
