Edwin Encarnacion, main shareholder of a new Hilton Hotel in La Romana
Dominican Major League Baseball slugger Edwin Encarnación is the main shareholder of a new Hilton 127-room hotel in La Romana (east).
The hotel complex entails an investment of 17 million dollars near the coast of Marzo Caribe and a few minutes from Catalina Island, one of the main natural attractions of the region, as highlighted in a statement from the Presidency.
“I am honored and deeply proud that within my own province I have been granted the opportunity to continue to collaborate with my roots and elevate the Dominican Republic to its full potential”, said Encarnacion, who has played for six teams during his career16-year-old in the Major Leagues.
The designated hitter noted that the hotel will have six levels and will create 300 jobs.
“We look forward to the success of this project, thinking more about doing even more to our country than about profitability”, said the slugger.
Meanwhile, President Abinader stressed that the hotel has the endorsement and blessing of his Government, since works that this is what the country needs for economic recovery, “even in the midst of a global pandemic that continues to affect to our population”.
In the opinion of the president, the environment of the hotel provides favorable conditions to compete “effectively in the hotel market in the area, also allowing efficient operation. It is excellent in relation to its surrounding areas since it allows quick access to international airports such as La Romana, which receives more than 400,000 travelers each year with more than 10,000 commercial and private flights”, he said.
The activity was attended by former Dominican Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martínez, who is also a sports advisor to Abinader, in addition to former shortstop Hanley Ramírez.
