Cruise ships return soon to Dominican Republic terminals
The Dominican Republic expects a return of cruise ships in its ports starting next July, as announced from Puerto Plata by President Luis Abinader.
“Starting July, the arrival of cruises through the different tourist terminals of the country will resume.”
The return of cruise ships is a possibility thanks to the recovery of the tourism industry and “the timely and successful measures adopted by the government to contain the contagion of citizens and visitors with the Covid pandemic.”
Carnival with its Amber Cove cruise terminal represents the spearhead for the arrival of cruise ships to Puerto Plata, which generates great dynamism in the economy.
In tune with the launch of the Responsible Tourism Recovery Plan, travelers arriving in the Dominican Republic no longer need to provide a negative PCR or COVID-19 test upon arrival.
Instead, airports and other ports of entry will conduct a quick and random breath test on 3% to 15% of passengers and all those with symptoms upon arrival.
Passengers under the age of five and crew members are exempt from this procedure.
It is also proposed that as of next April, passengers traveling from the United Kingdom to the DR must present a COVID-19 PCR negative test certificate taken within 72 hours prior to the trip.
