Seven tourism ministers from the Central American Integration System (SICA) gathered in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, for the 108th regular meeting of the Central American Tourism Council (CCT).
“Because of the success achieved in the tourism sector, the Dominican Republic is called to share its experience in the hospitality industry, is a model to follow that must be observed and studied, said Francisco Javier Garcia at the event held in Playa Dorada (NW).
Garcia is the Minister of Tourism of the DR, and President Pro Tempore of the Central American Tourism Council.
He hosted the opening ceremony of the 108th Ordinary Meeting of this body and 52 of the Board of Directors of the Tourism Promotion Agency, better known as -CATA-.
“In each and every Central American country, there are enough good experiences in tourism to propel a successful integration, so we should share in events like this one,” mentioned the public official at the meeting, on a message published on the entity’s Twitter account.

“The multi-destination concept is the regional strength in offering tourists the possibility of visiting several nations during their vacations, and that this context favors the evolution of the SITCA to become a reference stay in the field of tourism,” said Baez before recognizing Minister’s Javier Garcia support for tourism.

What is the Central American Tourism Council?
In 1965, during the 1st Extraordinary Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Central America, held in San Salvador between March 29 and April 2, an agreement was reached to create the Central American Tourism Council.
It acts as a subsidiary body of the Organization of Central American States and is composed of Directors and Managers of official tourism agencies of each of the Central American countries.
The CCT has a permanent office that will be called the Secretariat of Central American Tourism Integration (SITCA).
In 1996, tourism is recognized as a strategic sector for the sustainable economic and social development of Central America and acknowledges the private sector as a key actor in this field.
